fishing company

Our company focuses on catching sea fish, such as Sole, Oosterschelde Lobster, Crab, Eel, Sea Bass, Sepia (cuttlefish) and Harder.

The fresh fish is landed clean and sorted for house sale and for trade .

The company has two fishing vessels MS1 and the MS3 (Midden Schouwen).

The MS1 is an open aluminum boat of 7.5 meters long and 2.55 wide. It was built in 2010 with an outboard motor Yamaha 40 hp 4-stroke engine and a diesel-driven hydraulic set of 7 hp for operating the pot hauler. The pot hauler is used to haul in cubicles and cages and the trap roller to haul in the traps. The previous (old) MS1 was more equipped for fish traps. We had much less space in the boat in the old MS1 to work properly. The cubicles and cages take up a lot of space. The space in the new MS1 makes it much more pleasant to work in.

The MS3 was purchased in 2004. It is an aluminum boat of 8.8 meters long and 3.2 meters wide with a 200 hp diesel Volvo Penta and a power block and a net clearer. . The old MS3 was a smaller 33-year-old steel barge. With the current MS1 and MS3 we fish on the Oosterschelde, on fixed sections (of which van de Hoek has the exclusive right) and on free ground (approx. 1700 ha).

We also have a few small boats for the inland waterways at Schouwen where we fish for eel. In our inland waters we release 3 to 4 kg of glass eels every year, via the Combination of Professional Fishermen (CvB). In the fish traps we fish with escape rings of at least 18 mm. The locations are the De Flaauwers and De Wevers inlays, the waterways through Schouwen and the Dijkwater at Dreischor. We rent all this from the Scheldt Streams (formerly the Water Board). We rent Kreek de Schelphoek from Staatsbosbeheer. The total inland water surface covers 80 to 90 ha.

A few years ago we became certified stock sampling by taking the fish stock sampling hallmark course. As a result, we sometimes still have work in that area, such as a few years ago when, at the request of the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland, we caught as much fish as possible from the canal around Zierikzee in connection with dredging work, which was later released. The company employs 4 people. Applied fishing methods are;

Glans fishery: Sole, bass, and mullet (March to October).

Fish traps and cub fishing: Oosterschelde lobster (1 April to 15 July), crabs, sepia and eels (March to December)

Cage fishing: Oosterschelde lobster in the lobster season (1 April to 15 July)

Fish traps inland fishery: eel (March to September and December) Gathering rigging is set every day and collected again or collected early the next morning. We have the MSC label for sole fishing.

The traps and cages are collected and emptied a few times a week and fresh bait is put in for the lobsters and crabs. The traps in the indoor water are emptied twice a week.
